About nine years ago when I found Christian Science my need was great, I had just finished reading the Bible from cover to cover in search of truth. I earnestly prayed, in the only way I knew, for understanding, and my prayers were soon answered.

Though Christian Science was unknown to me, I was led to read some literature left in a public place by a member of the literature distribution committee of a Church of Christ, Scientist. As I read an article in The Christian Science Journal, many of the words seemed very strange, as if they were written in another tongue; so I laid it aside. However, I found myself picking it up again and again to read further.

The enlightenment I gained was so logical that I knew I had found God, divine Truth. Soon the Bible was no longer a mystery, but an open book, and it seemed as if I had always known this newly discovered truth. This first impression of Christian Science was so profound that a desire for tobacco and alcohol of twenty years' standing was instantly healed without any-specific prayer to overcome it.
