I am wholeheartedly grateful for the fact that Christian Science came into my life in 1936. At that time I was in a state of severe depression and was suffering from a pulmonary disease. The doctor gave me little hope of recovery and was unable to help me.

Then one day a colleague said to me: "Come along with me this evening. I know something that can help you as it has so often helped me." I accepted the invitation and accompanied her to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at a Christian Science church. Here I found the comfort and hope of which I was in such great need. With the help through prayer of a practitioner, the healing of depression and sickness took place very soon and has proved permanent.

I awakened early one morning in 1958 with a very bad cough and fever. Although I declared scientific truths of the perfection of God and man over and over again and did my best to deny the reality of sickness, I was no better. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy indicates that if we are not achieving a healing through our own prayers, we should ask for help (see page 420). Because of this and because it seemed to me that the symptoms were those of pneumonia, I asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment.
