The Things That Are Added

Christ Jesus warned mankind against the wiles of materialism that would turn them from the pure worship of God as Spirit. He knew the mesmeric action of the carnal mind that distracts men from things divine and causes them to center their thinking upon the needs, the pleasures, and the amenities of human living. Such interests seem to be harmless and normal, but they can become harmful if they crowd out full devotion to things of Spirit and become more important to one than the development of Christly character and spiritual usefulness.

The Master said plainly (Matt. 6:31-33): "Take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or. Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Here we see that our Way-shower did not neglect human needs. Because the divine Principle of his life was Love, his entire ministry brought blessings to people right when and where help was needed. His proofs of God's love gave, health, sight, speech, action to the body. He fed the hungry and freed the sinner. He provided security on the tempestuous sea. He raised the dead and comforted the sorrowing. He proved that Love's action extends to human thought by reason of God's allness, that Love's mercy is ever available and abundant.
