In the summer of 1959, amidst satisfaction and rejoicing, there occurred an event of great magnitude. The St. Lawrence Seaway, with its newly deepened channels, was formally dedicated. This event, a truly momentous one, opened up the heart of a great continent to ocean-going vessels.
