Comforter (John 14:16)

The Greek word is parakletos, literally "called to one's side," and is sometimes translated "advocate" (see I John 2:1); but many commentators, both ancient and modern, uphold the rendering; "Comforter," which, by its derivation, implies not only consolation but also a strengthening.
