Church Dedications

Corpus Christi, Texas (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Corpus Christi, Texas, will hold dedication services Sunday ... at 11 a.m. and at 7.30 p.m. The site of the church was purchased in 1945, and the modern brick church was completed in 1949.

Christian Science first came to public attention in Corpus Christi in 1907 when a small group began to meet in homes to hold services. By 1911 the group had organized a Christian Science Society and received recognition as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Five years later the congregation met the requirements for recognition as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Corpus Christi. Its first edifice was built at Morgan and Fifth Streets in 1929 and was dedicated in 1935.
