It was through a fellow sergeant...

It was through a fellow sergeant who was in the same camp with my husband that we first heard of Christian Science. We had noticed the joy expressed by this friend. We also noticed that although he had problems, he always solved them.

One day we asked him how it was that he was so happy and popular in a district where my husband and I were both strangers. He told us that he had made friends through his church. We naturally asked him which church he attended, and he told us he attended a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. He also explained to us that God is Love and referred us to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

A few days after this first talk I was in the kitchen, which faced the yard, when our son, who was then about nine years old, ran down the yard and then suddenly stopped and looked up. He told me quite calmly that the baby had squeezed through a bar placed down the window for protection and was hanging out the window. There was a drop of thirty feet to the yard below. My first thought was a phrase from the Bible which reads (Deut. 33:27), "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms."
