In 1931 I had a nervous breakdown. I lost my appetite and suffered from insomnia. I was a student of Christian Science and asked a practitioner for treatment. I studied the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings and strove to think in accordance with the truth we learn in Christian Science.

The reading of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and other literature published by The Christian Science Publishing Society greatly encouraged me. Regular attendance at church services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, had been my custom for years, and I continued to attend Sunday services, Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and Christian Science lectures.

I knew that it was wrong to indulge the erroneous belief that I did not wish to eat; so I persisted in eating some food each day. The practitioner continued to give me treatment, and after about three months I regained an appetite and ate normally.
