On the quotation page at the front of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, we read, "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." I have proved the truth of this statement of Shakespeare's many times by keeping in thought the truths received from the one divine Mind, God, about any problem which has had to be solved. The results have been fruitful.
For many years I suffered from varicose veins. The statement, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (ibid., p. 468), enlightened my thought. I realized that man, the spiritual reflection of God, divine Love, cannot suffer. All pain and anxiety over the condition disappeared, and I was healed.
My second daughter was born before the nurse and doctor, who had been called, arrived. No one was in the room with me; I was able to make calm declarations as to the spirituality of man in God's image and likeness. The birth was harmonious. When the nurse and doctor arrived, they lovingly cared for us.
Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, said (Matt. 11:29), "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
After a careful study of our Master's admonition I was encouraged to purchase an established business and to incorporate two of my children in it. We are progressing, and with God's assistance our needs are being met day by day. In meekness and humility we are learning to express Christlike qualities in our business activities and contacts. One member of the corporation is serving as First Reader in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
Christian Science has wonderfully sustained me and mine and, I am sure, will continue to do so. I have had the privilege of class instruction and of serving as organist in several branch churches. I have also served as musician at Christian Science services held in prisons and institutions. Much joy is experienced in my work on the various committees in a branch church.—(Mrs.) Florence I. De Witt, Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.
