A Few months after our daughter...

A Few months after our daughter commenced school in 1944, she became partially deaf. Turning to the Bible, I read (Mark 8:18), "Having ears, hear ye not?" I pondered these words of Jesus and decided that I would endeavor to "hear" by listening more often to God. For several months I went about my duties in the home, lifting my thought to God. Thinking of the child Samuel. I would say to God (I Sam. 3:10), "Speak; for thy servant heareth."

During those months many wonderful lessons were learned. I found I was receiving splendid ideas and guidance from God; but procrastination had to be overcome, for I was not heeding His directions. I would think, "Yes, I must do that"; but because I did not do it immediately, I sometimes discovered it had been forgotten and the opportunity lost. Once when I was writing a letter, the strong urge came to me to telephone a certain friend. I thought, "Yes, I must do that," but continued with my letter.

Suddenly the truth dawned on me that I was getting guidance through listening to God, but I was not being obedient to Him. With that I put down my pen and telephoned my friend, who had an immediate need which I was able to meet.
