A Worthy Ambassador

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

Christian Scientists at institutions of higher learning have a special opportunity to show forth what Christian Science teaches of God as the only Mind. In an atmosphere in which it is generally believed that intelligence inheres in a material brain, the student of this Science, depending entirely on God, Mind, for his intelligence, is usually in a minority. Surrounded by those who believe in minds many rather than in the one Mind, he must be constantly on the alert against the temptation to underrate spiritual intelligence and give weight to so-called material intelligence.

Spiritual dedication is required if the student is to see himself as God created him, His reflection. Only as the intelligence of the divine Mind permeates the minutiae of his thinking is the student enabled to give a good account of himself, to bless others, and to be a worthy ambassador of his religion. The first essential in the fulfilling of this desire is to know the teachings of Christian Science and to live them, both in the letter and in the spirit. By radiating the enlightenment which this Science brings, by achieving the good it offers, by conforming to the best of his ability to the pattern of man it reveals—perfect man in God's likeness—the student is a faithful ambassador of Christ, Truth. Basic faith in God, in fundamental good, and a deep conviction of the spiritual power of Truth play an important part in his role of an ambassador.

Mrs. Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 171), "Trust in Truth, and have no other trusts." One's trust in Truth rejects anything that would seem to jeopardize good, cast a shadow on one's own or another's character, or lessen the active operation of Science in the day's doings.
