I Was placed in a Christian Science Sunday School...

I Was placed in a Christian Science Sunday School at the age of four and attended regularly until I was twenty. Then I followed the paths of worldliness, thinking I was having a wonderful time. Cocktail parties and smoking were important activities in my social life.

After many years this type of life started to bore me, then actually to gall me. The utter uselessness of my existence became apparent. Then many things started to go wrong—frequent colds, costly mistakes at the office, extreme listlessness, and daily fatigue were commonplace. I began to wonder how I could possibly overcome these conditions; then suddenly the answer seemed to boom out at me, "Christian Science."

I hunted for the Bible and for my copies of Science and Health and the Manual of The Mother Church by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy. The next morning, bright and early, I was at the Reading Room purchasing a Quarterly. I immediately went back to regular church attendance.

Ten months later the cigarette habit left me after I had requested help from a Christian Science practitioner. Six weeks after this healing the liquor habit was overcome through my own work. At the end of another six months I was accepted for membership in The Mother Church and also in a branch church.

As a result of my daily study of the Bible Lesson, earnest study of our Leader's writings, and many hours spent in the digesting of articles in the periodicals, colds with their resultant sense of listlessness became less and less frequent and then practically disappeared. I often reasoned that since error is no part of God, it can be no part of man, H is perfect idea.

At one time many mistakes were being made in the busy typing department which is in my charge. Although I did not make them, I was held responsible for them. This resulted in my having to reprimand the different typists; the, in turn, made more errors, and more inharmony developed.

I sat earnestly studying one night, trying to clear my own thought of error. I realized that nothing can resist divine Love. I determined that when I went down to the office the next day, I would see all persons in my department and in all other departments as actually God's children, expressing every Godlike quality and nothing else. The mistakes stopped that day. So much harmony is now manifested in my department that it has been used as an example for other departments.

One outstanding healing was that of grief when my mother passed on. This healing occurred within five hours of her passing when these words from "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy were made clear to me (p. 151): "God is our Father and our Mother, our Minister and the great Physician: He is man's only real relative on earth and in heaven." This healing has been very precious to me. It also helped my father and my sister when we all realized that not only was Mother in God's hands now, but she had always been and always would be in His care.

Several years ago I had the priceless privilege of class instruction in Christian Science, and the blessings gained from attending association meetings surpass anything that I am capable of expressing. A ten-year period has elapsed since my return to Christian Science, and I am most grateful for the opportunity to help further this beloved Cause, established by our precious Leader.—(Miss) Jewel V. Benson, Chicago, Illinois.
