Reasonable Tests

The reasonable tests that should be required of any form of theology are these: How effective is it? Does it prove the nature and power of God in accord with its premises? Does it regenerate its adherents and make them Godlike?

Christ Jesus could prove the theology he taught, and this lent authority to his precepts. Moreover, he did not attribute power to his personality, but to his doctrine, which is available to all. He said (John 7:16, 17): "My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."

Jesus' theology included the truth of God as the only Father of man, made perfect in His likeness; the inseparability of Father and son; and the will of God as the governing law of the universe. On the basis of his theology, Jesus destroyed sin, healed the sick, restored lost faculties, overcame material laws of limitation, and raised the dead. He turned the course of human progress in the direction of Christ, Love's divine ideal.
