Church Dedications

Merced, California (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Merced, California, completed here in 1950, will he dedicated in two Sunday services... held at 11 a.m. and 7.30 p.m....

The church had its beginning in May, 1909, when a few students met in a private home at 21st and I Streets to hold services. In 1911, after banding together to form a Christian Science Society in quarters at 17th and K Streets, the group was officially recognized in June by The Mother Church, in Boston, Massachusetts. In December, 1912, [the society's change of title to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Merced, was recognized by The Mother Church]. At this time the members met at 18th and L Streets in the Kocher Building.
