A few years after my graduation from college, my health became greatly impaired. As it grew worse a member of my family insisted that I have a medical examination. This was done, and the difficulty was diagnosed as tuberculosis. At the time this condition developed I was not actively studying Christian Science, although I had been reared in it and had attended Sunday School until I went away to college.

When I was told of the medical verdict, I turned completely to God for healing. I obtained a leave of absence from my business and spent much time each day in the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I also had the help of a Christian Science practitioner. Through study and prayer I began to gain a better understanding of God as Life and Love, and of man as His image and likeness. I was greatly helped by the following statement in the textbook (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

As I persisted in study and as my understanding grew of the truth that man, the perfect idea of perfect God, possesses only the substance of Spirit, my health improved. I began to understand better what Christ Jesus meant when he said (Matt. 6:33), "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." It was nearly two years before the healing was complete, but it has been permanent.
