I first heard of Christian Science through a very dear aunt. When I was a child, she was healed by its means of a toxic goiter. Many years later two of my former college companions, who had become active students of this Science, presented me with the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

Although I was appreciative at the time, I was not aware then of the impact the book would have on my life. It was about five years before my need became so urgent that I turned to it for help and began studying it.

For a number of years I had been experiencing periodic states of melancholia and depression. These conditions were coming up in a more extreme form and at more frequent intervals. Because of my lack of peace and joy, I was relying on a false sense of social values to try to find comfort; but they brought only discomfort.
