Ten years ago, before I became...

Ten years ago, before I became a student of Christian Science, a small growth appeared on my body, and I became fearful over this condition. The family physician was called in, and he recommended an immediate operation. I did not comply with his advice, however, but decided instead to make an appointment with a Christian Science practitioner.

I walked into the practitioner's office in a state of fear bordering on hysteria, and when I left, it was as though a heavy burden had been lifted from my shoulders. While there, I was asked to study and to memorize this passage from Isaiah (41:10), "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness," and the definition of God, found on page 587 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Never again did I fear this condition, and in a very short time the growth disappeared completely.

I have had other physical healings, one of which was of a severely sprained ankle. I sat down at my desk and studied the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly for that week. When I came to these words on page 496 of Science and Health, "Hold perpetually this thought,—that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being," it occurred to me that I could hold to this thought instead of holding to tables and chairs for my support.
