LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

In an article ... in your [magazine, a minister] unintentionally misrepresents the teachings of Christian Science in regard to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Christian Scientists deny that death could put an end to the real, spiritual life of the Master, even though his enemies might kill his body, and they see his resurrection from the grave as the wonderful evidence of his immortality and the immortality of all men.

I don't believe [the minister] would have called the early Christians "quacks for following the Saviour's example in healing disease and even raising the dead by spiritual means alone. Nor is there any excuse for using the term in regard to a church founded in 1879, on motion of Mary Baker Eddy, "To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Historical Sketch from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, p. 17).
