Christian Science came to me at a time of great need and as a direct answer to prayer. In extremity one night, I used the Lord's Prayer, the only prayer I knew. When I came to the line "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matt. 6:11), it was as though a light flooded my consciousness, and a great peace followed.

I did not know what my answer would be, but I had not long to wait. Within a few days a friend invited me to read a biography of Mary Baker Eddy; this I did with great interest and followed this with the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

Before I had finished reading Science and Health, I was able to put into practice what I had learned. When I applied "the scientific statement of being," the first sentence of which reads (Science and Health, p. 468), "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter," my young daughter was healed of ivy poisoning within twenty-four hours.
