I am grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me. As a child I had scarlet fever in a severe form, and a ruptured eardrum caused by an infection resulted in defective hearing. Later, I incurred an infection in my ears while swimming. This was treated for years by medical means until a specialist told me one day that only a vestige of an eardrum remained in one ear and not much more than that in the other. Another specialist, who was consulted later, said the auditory nerve was dying, and I would gradually lose my hearing altogether.

Shortly thereafter, when my wife and I began to study Christian Science, all medical treatments were discontinued. The infection did clear, but the hearing did not improve. However, neither did it get worse, as had been predicted by the doctor.

A few years ago, when I was promoted to a more responsible position, it was recommended that I obtain a hearing aid. Then my wife began doing special work for me in Christian Science. I myself did not have much hope, but she never doubted. She knew that hearing is spiritual understanding and that all the real senses are forever perfect in Mind and can never be lost.
