CONGENIAL EMPLOYMENT

It is generally recognized that one's attitude toward one's work greatly influences one's health and happiness. In recent years many attempts have been made to provide vocational guidance and agreeable physical conditions in offices and factories; but still, on all sides, there are people to whom work is a daily grind which they call earning a living.

If anyone finds himself in such an unhappy state of mind, he can examine his concept of living in the light of Christian Science, the Science of man's real being. This Science enables one to prove that real life is spiritual, the ceaseless unfoldment of one infinitely wise and loving purpose. Man lives as the idea of God, divine Mind, and is always in his right place as the spiritual reflection of this Mind. In the degree that one understands and applies these truths, his work becomes the utilization of spiritual ideas and is manifested outwardly in congenial and useful employment.

The monotonous grind and the pressing drive in human experience originate in the belief in a mortal selfhood apart from God. According to this false belief, men seem to be destined to go through periods of growth, fruition, and decline. But human thought can be aroused from this misconception of life by the knowledge of man's real status as the image and likeness of God.
