ASPECTS OF EFFECTIVE PRAYER

To pray effectively, one needs to understand these basic truths of Christian Science: that God is Spirit, the inexhaustible source of all good, and that the rich resources of the Almighty are ever available to man, His spiritual image and likeness. God's man has an indestructible union with divine Love, and he is always supplied with its boundless riches.

What, then, is the object of prayer? It is to free human consciousness from the limitations imposed by material concepts of existence and to bring it into the recognition of man's true birthright and inheritance as the son of God. It is to establish in thought the assurance of man's indestructible unity with divine Love.

Christ Jesus, our great Way shower, has pointed the way to effective prayer in the following instruction (Matt. 6:6): "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."
