About five years ago I was knocked down by a motorcar. The accident occurred on a main road near but just out of sight of my home. My sister, standing on the veranda, heard the screech of brakes and saw a tram stop in an unusual place and thought: "I believe that is an accident. I think I will see if I can be of help." She most certainly was.

An ambulance had been sent for, but I expressed my desire to be taken home. My sister explained our reason for this; and the driver of the ambulance consented, but only on the condition that we call a doctor at once. This was done. When the doctor arrived he was told why he had been called, and that since we were Christian Scientists, we did not want any medical treatment. He was most kind, and no medical treatment was given.

When I settled down to sleep the first night, there was every evidence of inward injury. We would not allow ourselves to become fearful, knowing that, as Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 371), "Truth is an alterative in the entire system, and can make it 'every whit whole.'" In that thought I mentally rested, even though my body was uncomfortable because of many bad bruises.
