WE ARE NOT ALONE

In recent years war and political conditions have tested the ability of many Christian Scientists to stand alone with God when separated from loved ones. They have sometimes even been denied contact with the Christian Science movement. Many members of The Mother Church doubtless remember hearing of one outstanding instance of such fidelity told at the time of the Annual Meeting several years ago. It was related that a student of Christian Science, imprisoned and gravely ill, had been completely healed through the realization that throughout the world fellow members of The Mother Church were earnestly praying for all mankind and that their prayers included him.

This healing came to the thought of another student later, when she was succumbing to self-pity because she felt ill and surrounded by people who were skeptical of Christian Science. With profound gratitude she remembered her membership in The Mother Church and realized the world-wide fellowship she thus had with all loyal workers.

Vivid examples of steadfastness among the Scientists whom she knew came to her thought and brought courage. All sense of being alone and overwhelmed faded before the flood of gratitude in her thought, and within a few hours the physical difficulty was completely healed.
