GOD IS HERE, NOW!
The theory of a distant God available to us only on occasion or pursuant to deific whim has in a large measure been exploded. There is in the consciousness of many a certain abiding faith that God is nearby. This feeling of God's nearness has its support in such passages as this one from the Psalms (145:18): "The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth."
Although there is a growing acceptance of the conviction that God is near us, there is still a general belief that He is not always willing or able to help us in our time of need. This doubt of God's ever-availability is one of the reasons for human trust and dependence on materiality. Christian Science makes it clear that mortal and material reliances must give place to reliance on the omnipotence of God.
