I have known Christian Science all of my life and have had many proofs of God's protection and care. Opportunities to gain more humility and brotherly love have brought an enlarged sense of freedom and satisfaction.

One morning I awoke with the right side of my face paralyzed. I had no control of the mouth, the facial muscles, or the eye. This was quite a shock to me as well as a blow to my pride. For a short time after this occurred I was tempted to do away with myself so as not to be a burden to anyone. I soon realized that this temptation was a false sense of self which was arguing and that I could not do away with an idea of which is forever and eternally expressed. I could only do away with a false belief about man.

With the loving and compassionate help of a practitioner, I began to see that I had to take a firmer stand for Christian Science than I had ever before taken and to prove irrevocably that this Science heals. This was one time when I could not just read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, think about a few simple truths, and then be finished with Christian Science for the day.
