For the past ten years I have been...

For the past ten years I have been a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School. I should like to express my gratitude for all the blessings that have come to me through the study of Christian Science.

While in high jumping one day, when I landed in a rather awkward position and injured my collarbone. It appeared to be either cracked or broken. At first the pain was so intense that I was unable to think clearly. A sense of fear gripped me. However, even in that moment of stress, I was determined that I was going to work out this healing completely in Christian Science. The year before, I had experienced a similar accident. That time I had permitted X rays, which showed that there was a break, and a doctor had set the bone. This time I thought for myself, "I will have to accept this challenge sometime; I must meet the condition entirely in Christian Science."

At the time of the accident someone remarked that I appeared to be suffering from brittle bones. Through a practitioner's help I realized that I was suffering from brittleness and rigidity of thought. To deny these erroneous characteristics, I looked up in Mary Baker Eddy's writings references to "freedom," "naturalness," and "let." The thoughts expressed in these references denied the claims of rigidity, tenseness, and stiffness.
