DIVINELY DIRECTED ACTIVITY

Christ Jesus proved for himself and for others that because of God's omnipresence, the law of God is instantly operative and available. Yielding to the divine will or law and following its leadings in pursuance of his God-directed mission on earth, Jesus was able always to be where he ought to be at precisely the right moment. More than once, when his disciples were in need of specific evidence that a correct understanding of God and of His laws gives men dominion over fear and all evil, he proved the powerlessness of evil's claims.

On one occasion when Jesus quieted a raging storm at sea, the disciples marveled at his power and asked (Matt. 8:27), "What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!" Yet he maintained that of himself he could do nothing, that the works were done by the Father, God, who dwelt in him.

Jesus' delay of two days in going to Bethany to the bedside of Lazarus, his friend, was not occasioned by indifference to his friend's plight. The view of existence which Jesus held did not include the belief or fear that sickness, sin, or death could ever overpower God, who is man's Life. The grief-stricken relatives and friends who were standing at Lazarus' tomb when Jesus arrived saw him awaken Lazarus from the belief of death to a renewed sense of life and dominion. Thus Jesus furnished to them unquestionable proof that under God's government and control, man is never deprived of being and activity.
