SAFE IN SCIENCE

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Mildred was spending her first summer at camp, many miles from home. On this particular sunny morning her thinking was clouded with self-pity, for her ears were throbbing painfully, and home seemed a long way off. Because she could not hear when the other girls spoke to her, she went to her cabin where she would be alone and began to cry. How she wished for her mother's comforting arms!

Ever since she could remember, Mildred had attended a Christian Science Sunday School. There she had been taught the truths in the Holy Scriptures and how to use them every day. She had also learned that the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is truly a key which makes the Bible an open book.

Then, as she had been taught, she turned to her Father-Mother God in prayer, asking for help. She prayed aloud, "Dear God, tell me what to do." She thought of what her Sunday School teacher had asked her to remember especially: that she would always be safe in Science or in her understanding of God as ever-present good. The teacher had said that since the word "science" meant knowledge of truth or law, the understanding and acknowledgment of her true relationship to God as His perfect child would keep her safe wherever she was.
