TRUE COMPANIONSHIP

The question often arises, "How can I find congenial companions and make friends?" Christian Science gives a clear answer to this question, based on the fact of God's infinite fatherhood and the universal brotherhood of man. The teaching of this Science, based on the Bible and especially the words and works of Jesus, defines God as Spirit, as pure Mind. The conclusion, then, must be that all men in their real being are pure, spiritual ideas, dwelling in eternal, harmonious brotherhood and companionship. God recognizes no distinctions of class, of wealth, or of nationality. All of God's ideas constitute the family of man; all are held together in bonds of perfectness.

These spiritual truths need to be accepted and consistently acknowledged in daily living. Then they open the way for happy, profitable, and enduring companionship. When Elijah, the prophet, visited a woman whose family was threatened with starvation he found that she had only a little oil and meal in her house. Following his instruction, she began to use what was available, and immediately more was added to provide for her family for many days.

This is a lesson for all who seek right companionship. The question which each one should ask himself is, "What have I in the house?" In other words, what have I to offer those whom I would have for friends and companions? Christ Jesus said (Luke 6:38): "Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
