"I waited patiently for the Lord;...

"I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry" (Ps. 40:1) . I had been a student of Christian Science for several years when I awakened to the fact that I had become entangled in a web of personal sense and burdened with the weights of self to an almost overwhelming degree. I knew that my need was for more spiritual understanding, and I sought the help of another Christian Scientist, who, although not a practitioner, prayerfully worked for me. My desire for healing kept me steadfast through the struggles with error, which together we uncovered and eliminated.

There were periods of discouragement, but I clung to the statement from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" where our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes (p. 22), "Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified."

Gradually, but steadily, patience replaced impatience, harmony evicted discord, love overcame resentment, and a false concept of friendship gave place to the true concept when it was clearly understood that we companion with right ideas. Each step of the healing was acknowledged and carefully protected. But there was yet a higher step needed in this demonstration of freedom—a proof of my understanding of the allness of God.
