EXAMINATIONS AND THE JOY OF DEMONSTRATION

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

NOTHING can deprive us of the joy which Christian Science confers when we remember to evaluate education from a spiritual basis. We do not need to accept the sense of pressure which claims to be so prevalent in educational circles. Mortal mind, so called, would always try to express itself in terms of limitation.

The Christian Scientist knows that his most valuable textbooks are the Holy Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. He finds therein a complete guide for his conduct in every human situation, even one in which he is faced with either verbal or written school examinations.

Mrs. Eddy, herself a woman of wide education, says (Science and Health, p. 195): "Academics of the right sort are requisite. Observation, invention, study, and original thought are expansive and should promote the growth of mortal mind out of itself, out of all that is mortal." Since study, understood aright, promotes our growth out of a mortal sense of existence, then preparation for school examinations should be an exhilarating and not an enervating experience.
