I have been privileged to have a number of beautiful experiences in Christian Science. With deep gratitude and joy I should like to tell of a case of mental surgery.

It was in 1948, some years after our family had been separated from all Christian Science friends because of conditions prevailing at the time in our country. My daughter and I were returning from an outing. I had an accident, and one foot was badly injured. I steadfastly repeated "the scientific statement of being" given on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The pain abated, but my foot remained badly swollen and was painful when I stood on it. Several weeks passed in this way, and then in a moment of anxiety I decided to have the foot X–rayed. On the basis of the X ray, the doctor diagnosed the condition as a splintered bone in the heel and advised me to go to the hospital. He promised that the swelling would be reduced if I had the foot treated according to his instructions. But he told my daughter that I would never walk properly again. I refused treatment in the hospital.

Shortly thereafter I learned the address of a Christian Science practitioner. This experienced worker helped me most wonderfully. She told me to cling to the thought that God, Mind, is the source of all movement and to know that I had never been where an accident could occur. She quoted these words from Habakkuk (3:19): "The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hind's feet." After about a week my foot resumed its normal shape. In a short time I was able to walk as freely as I had previously done.
