With a deep sense of gratitude I...

With a deep sense of gratitude I submit this testimony. During my childhood my parents experienced great lack, and as I compared my lot with that of other children I incurred a very persistent inferiority complex. I developed hatred for my father, and it remained in my thought until it was healed in Christian Science some twenty-five years later.

On my return home after the First World War it quickly became obvious that my mother and I had few interests in common. I became unemployed and had a series of unhappy experiences, lasting for years. Finally I was introduced to some Christian Scientists. Many times I had attended places of worship, but found nothing to help me. When these new friends persuaded me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist, I went intending to criticize all I heard.

However, I found an unmistakable atmosphere of peace, which I could not understand. I borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and asked a Christian Science practitioner for help regarding supply. The response to that appeal sustained me through some severe trials. The consecrated work done for me not only brought greater supply, but it also healed me of hatred. When my mother saw these and other healings taking place, she said, "Well, if Christian Science has done all this for you, I am glad you have it." This attitude brought about a lasting harmonious relationship between us.
