My mother was healed of asthma within two weeks of the time a close friend of the family had introduced Christian Science to her. Immediately all the members of my family, except me, started to attend a Church of Christ, Scientist, or the Christian Science Sunday School. I was very resentful, for I felt that I would lose all my friends if I changed to another church.

At that time my face was full of pimples. Although I had used many different types of salves, had eaten yeast, and had had X-ray treatments, my face had not cleared up. Someone had said that it might do so when I passed the adolescent stage—three or four years from then. However, my father assured me that my face could clear up at once if I would study and apply Christian Science.

I decided to investigate Science, and the entire family began reading together the weekly Lesson-Sermon given in the Christian Science Quarterly. The first morning I thought we would never get through the lesson. It seemed so long! But each day the lesson became more interesting, and soon I was not conscious of how much time we spent on it. Aside from this, I studied each day for about half an hour. Especially helpful to me were the ninety-first Psalm and these words from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (pp. 247, 248): "The recipe for beauty is to have less illusion and more Soul, to retreat from the belief of pain or pleasure in the body into the unchanging calm and glorious freedom of spiritual harmony."I stopped using all medical treatment, and I ate all types of food. Within a month my face was completely cleared, and it has remained that way ever since.
