EXCHANGE THE MATERIAL FOR THE SPIRITUAL

If one purchased an article of clothing and found it to be too small, he would not wear it and try to make it do; he would immediately exchange it for one that fitted. Often we let a mortal, erring belief enter our consciousness and lodge there. Instead, we should just as immediately exchange this false belief for the correct spiritual fact.

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 531): "The human mind will sometime rise above all material and physical sense, exchanging it for spiritual perception, and exchanging human concepts for the divine consciousness. Then man will recognize his God-given dominion and being." Testimony based solely on material sense can never fit into God's perfect plan for His children. "Love's work and Love must fit," Hymn No. 51 in the Christian Science Hymnal assures us.

Christ Jesus beheld the perfect man in spite of discordant conditions. We must be just as vigilant as Jesus was to exchange unhealthy thoughts of fear, discord, lack, and death for thoughts of love, harmony, abundance, and life eternal. We can do this as we gain a larger understanding of our Father-Mother God and of man's eternal oneness, or unity, with Him. We must see that Spirit is good and All and that matter is nothing.
