Unlimited Resources Available
[An address given by a Sunday School teacher at a branch church meeting]
How good it is to know that we have the unlimited resources of divine Love with which to meet all of the children's needs in the Sunday School. We can utilize these resources in our teaching to the extent that we open the doors of our hearts to the inspiration that comes continually from the infinite Love that is God. We can open our hearts to this inspiration only as we draw close to God throughout the week, in prayerful preparation for that holy hour on Sunday, when we and the children come together to listen to the messages from on high. As we faithfully do this, we can come to our classes, filled and overflowing with love and enthusiasm for Christian Science.
The Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy are the outcome of inspiration, and inspiration is needed to teach the pupils. When our thoughts are close to God and are filled with love and gratitude for Christian Science, for the lifework of our great Master, and for our dear Leader, we can say with the Psalmist (Ps. 23:5), "My cup runneth over." Then there will be an overflow that will fill every empty cup and meet every human need.
To illustrate this, a girl in one of the older classes called her Sunday School teacher for help one Saturday morning, saying that through an accident she had received a deep gash on her forehead the evening before. She said too that knowing the truths she had been taught in the Sunday School had helped, because the pain had immediately disappeared. She also told her teacher that when she entered the newspaper office where she was employed, one of the reporters who had recently taken a course in first aid insisted that she go to a doctor to have stitches taken. The pupil was further warned that there might be a concussion. Instead of going to a doctor, the girl asked for Christian Science treatment. She was advised to cover the gash with a bandage so that it would not be continually brought to the attention of others.
