In 1924 I attended my first Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist. I got so much from one of the testimonies I heard there that the next morning I cleared out my medicine cabinet and threw away everything it contained. Then with a sense of relief I stood in the middle of the room and said, "Dear God, I commit myself to You; I will be Yours alone."

In addition to many other ills, I was faced with an operation. A tumor had to be removed, but I had not yet decided to have it done. The doctor I had been consulting for two years had given me three more weeks to think it over. I asked God to show what way I should take and to put to silence all doubt.
