BASIC SECURITY

The search for security is universal. Mankind yearns to escape the precarious sense interwoven in human life, for to this sense lack or the threat of it always lurks and lingers in one form or another. Most human beings gradually accept the common view that life is a struggle, waged with weapons often inadequate and armor imperfect.

But Christian Science has come, bringing to light a wholly new standpoint of observation, which is reverently based on Christian grounds, yet appeals logically and irresistibly to our highest, scientific reasoning capacity. Science points out a new realm, the realm of Spirit. This realm is no longer remote and vague, but clear and "at hand." as John the Baptist declared (see Matt. 3:2). Only in the realm of Spirit will man ever feel secure, because only the realm of Spirit is real. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 277): "The realm of the real is Spirit. The unlikeness of Spirit is matter, and the opposite of the real is not divine.—it is a human concept. Matter is an error of statement." Thus we learn in Science that there is no matter, hence no material realm.

Christian Science answers in a satisfying way questions basic to daily life and meets the human need. It does so in the deep and tender tones of Love that is divine and hence is not variable or fallible. Science explains life as it really is, entirely good, for Life is God, the source of all real being. It makes plain that there is a controlling Principle, which is both infinite and divine, therefore unassailable, inexhaustible, all-embracing, self-sustained.
