More Accessible and Inviting Quarters Extend Their Effectiveness

[Note: Extracts from a report prepared for the Reading Room Division by the executive board of a branch church]

Traverse City, Michigan

Several years after our membership was alerted to the importance of a downtown ground-floor location for its Christian Science Reading Room, a local hotel converted part of its street-level space to offices. When we learned that these were for rent, the members voted to obtain one for our Reading Room, although the expense involved presented a grave responsibility.

We moved into this location in the spring of 1949. Formerly our room was open fifteen hours a week, but when we relocated, the hours were increased, making the Reading Room available to the public thirty-two hours a week. At once activity improved. To stimulate still further interest in our Reading Room and to open thought to the rewards of individual study in the room, we held a special membership meeting there. At this meeting previously selected articles on the development and growth of Christian Science Reading Rooms were read from the bound volumes.
