KEEPING WATCH OVER THE WORLD

Recent events in the history of the world point to the need of clear spiritual thinking and steadfast reliance on God, divine Principle, as an aid to the establishment of righteous activity and government in the affairs of men. The Church of Christ, Scientist, stands today as a unique representation of the power of Spirit. It illustrates in the lives of its members the effect of Christ, Truth, in overcoming all the ills of mankind. Mary Baker Eddy refers to The Mother Church as typical of the power of Spirit motivating and forwarding the greatest moral, physical, and religious reform which mankind has ever experienced.

What is the responsibility of the individual Christian Scientist in this work of establishing righteous government and harmonious activity in the affairs of men? Our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, points the way when she tells us that thought instructed in the Science of Christianity is the greatest healing agent on earth. And the glorious career of Jesus proves that one individual imbued with the truth of being, instructed in Christian Science, can perform what the so-called might of armaments cannot accomplish.

Among the dangers confronting the twentieth century, Mrs. Eddy includes the claims of politics and human power. This statement emphasizes the responsibility which falls upon the shoulders of every Christian Scientist: he must know and maintain the facts of righteous God-directed government. And this prayerful work is especially important when the heads of government meet to consider the disposition of the affairs of men and nations.
