Christian Science healed me of colitis and of chronic nervous trouble of many years' standing. These conditions eventually confined me to bed for several years. In all, I was sent to sixteen hospitals, but did not improve. I took morphine and other drugs day and night and never knew what it was to have natural sleep.

I had always loved the Bible and its promises. The fourteenth chapter of John was my favorite passage. After reading this chapter I would pray, asking God to send the Comforter to me. The more I prayed the more convinced I became that my prayer would be answered, though I had no idea in what form. One day a kind visitor put "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy into my hands. I immediately opened the book, and my eyes rested on these words (p. 55): "In the words of St. John: 'He shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.' This Comforter I understand to be Divine Science."

I shall never forget that moment. It was as if a door had suddenly been opened, letting the light into a dark room. My healing commenced at that moment. It was slow, but I am grateful that I was forced to study and put into practice what I learned. Loving practitioners at different times helped me. The specialists had placed me on a strict diet. Now I eat whatever I like and have a hearty appetite.
