"You can prove for yourself...

"You can prove for yourself, dear reader, the Science of healing, and so ascertain if the author has given you the correct interpretation of Scripture." So states our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, on page 547 of Science and Health. This I have done many times, both with and without the aid of a Christian Science practitioner.

My first healing in Christian Science was that of stomach trouble at a time when the physician said I would have to have an operation and then go to another state to live where the climate would be more favorable to my health. At this time a copy of Science and Health came into my hands, and I thought I would read through it to see what it was about, but without thought of seeking healing. As I read I became thoroughly convinced that what I was reading was the truth; so I gave up all medical treatment and pondered the statements which I had been reading. Within a short time the stomach trouble disappeared, and it did not return. As I did not then know any students of Christian Science, my introduction to it was entirely impersonal.

Since that time many healings have followed. Some of them have been those of a cracked wrist bone, influenza, an infected throat, cysts, and a large mole on my forehead. Protection was most beautifully demonstrated at the time of a railway accident. I boarded a train about midnight, and before I retired the suggestion of an accident came to me. Then I recalled a testimony which I had heard a few months before in which the speaker referred to the Bible and Science and Health as the greatest library in the world. It occurred to me that right in my handbag in my berth I had these two books, the greatest library in the world, and I pondered what they meant to me and to the world.
