DIVINE GUIDANCE

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy gives the Tenets of Christian Science, the first of which reads (p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

Through the pages of the Bible one can trace the guidance of the still small voice, the voice of God, guiding those who would follow His direction. Such guidance was received by the child Samuel when he heard the Lord's voice and answered (I Sam. 3:10), "Speak; for thy servant heareth." As the prophets and disciples of old heard God's voice, so may we acknowledge our ability to hear His voice at all times and in all circumstances. By so doing we recognize God's omnipresence, which includes the fulfillment of all good. Isaiah spoke of God's ever-present guidance when he said (30:21), "Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."

The writer experienced God's guidance when he was faced with a business problem. After several years of faithful work with one concern and through no fault of the employees as a whole, the company policy called for a complete liquidation of the business. While the company was financially solvent, the writer's fear of possible unemployment seemed very real, and he sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner.
