An ex-serviceman had been interested in Christian Science before entering a Veterans' Administration Hospital. However, he had allowed his work to occupy so much of his time and thought that he neglected to study and practice the truths he knew. Eventually he became critically ill with tuberculosis and was placed in a hospital. One of his first acts after entering the hospital was to send home for his Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Through the application of Christian Science, his condition improved rapidly and the hemorrhages ceased.

When the ex-serviceman first entered the hospital, he took medicine, because it seemed necessary to co-operate with the doctors in this way in order to remain in the hospital. He continued to improve, but was in the hospital for over three months before learning that a Christian Science Minister served there. However, before asking the Minister for treatment, the veteran stopped taking medicine. The doctors offered no objections because of his improved condition.
