Some years ago our small son and...
Some years ago our small son and I visited my sister, a class-taught student of Christian Science, who had at different times tried to interest me in the study of this Science. Almost my first word to her was an exclamation of dismay that I had forgotten to bring a certain medicine. Her quiet denial corrected my belief that medicine had power, and in the years since then I have had no desire to use medication of any kind for myself, my family, or our pets.
The day after our arrival at my sister's home our son was healed of a chronic condition of the bowels by my sister's declarations of the truth taught in Christian Science. When we returned home I visited a practitioner, who lovingly encouraged me to enroll my son in the Christian Science Sunday School and to purchase a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This I studied earnestly, and at the end of the year I became a member of both The Mother Church and a branch church. During the ensuing ten years it has been my privilege to be affiliated at different times with four branch churches, to serve on various committees, and to teach in weekday, released-time, religious education classes and in the Sunday School.
There have been many beautiful proofs of God's loving care in our family. False traits of character have been healed, and the child's changes of school have brought no sadness or unhappy adjustments with new playmates. He has had only traces of so-called childhood diseases, and he was beautifully protected when he fell from a saddle horse to the pavement; he was unharmed. He has learned to work prayerfully for himself. We are grateful for his membership in The Mother Church.
