More than twenty years ago three doctors said that because of an incurable cancer I could not live more than two years. An acquaintance of mine recommended that I try Christian Science, and she wrote on a slip of paper the name and telephone number of a practitioner for me to call. I accepted the slip of paper, because I did not want to hurt the woman's feelings. Although I did not want to tell her, I was at that time very antagonistic to what I thought Christian Science to be.

However, a few weeks later I decided to call the practitioner and talk with him. I told him that I did not know anything about Christian Science and that I had no faith in it, but that because I was desperate I was willing to have him help me, if that was possible in view of the way I regarded Science. I was met with such a wonderful expression of loving-kindness that I felt I had come to the right place. The practitioner gave me Christian Science treatment for a period of two weeks, and I was healed. It was indeed proved true that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."

Six months later, out of curiosity, I went to one of the doctors who had said that I was a hopeless case, and had a physical examination. The doctor said I was completely healed and was without even the evidence of a scar.
