Korea—Commendation for Christian Science Chaplain

A Christian Scientist serving as a chaplain in Korea was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. This chaplain distinguished himself by meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy. In part, the award reads: "Displaying an unusual amount of enthusiasm and zeal, Chaplain ... assured that the men with whom he came in contact were afforded every opportunity for the practice of their religious functions. His unselfish devotion to duty assured the men under his charge that their spiritual needs would be taken care of, and that they could count on a loyal friend who would assist them with all their problems. No matter how adverse the conditions under which he had to work and regardless of the time of day, Chaplain ... was always ready to be of assistance to those who called on him. His warm personality, coupled with his exemplary performance of duty, did much to enhance the morale of his men and was mirrored in the Division's exemplary record, reflecting distinct credit on Chaplain ... and the military service."
