CHRIST-HEALING THROUGH SONG

Mary Baker Eddy early perceived the power of song to uplift and heal. In her statement under the marginal heading "Crumbs of comfort," found on page 234 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she writes, "Whatever inspires with wisdom. Truth, or Love —be it song, sermon, or Science— blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty."

What a glorious blessing our Leader has given to humanity in her revelation of the ever-present Christ. She tells us in Science and Health (p. 332), "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness." Then the Christ is not a far-off Saviour, but the "divine message" of Life, Truth, and Love, the message from God to the human consciousness, telling us of our unity, or oneness, with our Father-Mother God, whose tender love and care are here and now available to meet every human need.

Isaiah prophetically pictured themission of the Christ when he said (61:1,3): "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; ... he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; ... to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord."
