Some years ago my mother gave me a small pocket edition of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for a present. At the time I did not fully appreciate this gift, and it was not until my mother passed on that I realized it was the most precious gift one could receive, for it contains the truth of which Jesus spoke when he said (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."

When I had learned "the scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of the textbook, I had occasion to put Christian Science into practice. I was lifting a joint of meat from the oven when the pan slipped and the boiling fat went down my leg. I did not remove my stocking, although the leg was very painful; but I repeated "the scientific statement of being." Some hours afterward, when the pain had ceased, I removed the stocking, and all that was visible was a tiny red mark. Since then I have experienced other similar healings, and also I have been able to prevent colds from developing.

From my early childhood much money had been spent for me on dental treatment. About four years ago I had trouble with one of my teeth when eating, and I intended to again visit the dentist. In the meantime I went to stay with a Christian Science practitioner and mentioned that I did not wish to have toast for breakfast because of the tooth trouble. Through the loving help she gave me the condition was healed, and I have had no more trouble.
